Module Programming
Module programming, also known as flashing or reflashing, is a service that updates or replaces the software in a vehicle’s computer. It’s similar to updating the software on personal items like your phone, computer and other household goods. The reasons you would need this service:
- Fix drivability concerns – A software update can help fix issues and keep the car running smoothly.
- Replacing a module – When a new module is installed, it needs to be programmed with the correct information.
- Repair or replace a transmission or engine – After repairing or replacing a transmission or engine the vehicle may need to be reprogrammed so it can recognize the new parts.
- Factory settings are affecting drivability – If the factory settings become too sensitive, the car might need to be reprogrammed.
- Check engine light is on – A programming issue in the powertrain control module (PCM) can cause the check engine light to come on.
